All-New ‘Pilipinas, Game KNB?’

The original Philippine game show, ‘Pilipinas, Game KNB?’, has recently took a new format: new stage set-up, new game rules, new theme.

I don’t know why the show needed a re-format. I thought PGKNB was doing well in the ratings game. Is this related to GMA’s new show, ‘The BIG Show’? Anyway, I was very curious what was “new” with PGKNB so I searched all night yesterday to almost all video hosting sites πŸ™‚ (But the brownout interrupted my search) hoping that someone uploaded it.

After finding one (actually, I just finished watching it), I found the stage or the studio very good. The studio is well lighted and Edu made a very funny entrance πŸ™‚ because there is a some kind of a (cylindrical) platform revealing Edu lying down on the floor. But i didn’t like the (sound) theme. I wonder what happened to the original ‘Game KNB’ theme. For the past versions of GKNB, have you noticed the pattern on the melody of the theme. For the current theme, I can hardly notice it. And the bus horn annoys me. I can’t connect the bus horn with the theme. Thank God, they used the previous sound events for correct and wrong answers (I am very meticulous with the stage set-up and music theme, haha).

The new game rules are the following:

Initial Round (Elimination): Edu picks up five players (via electronic raffle) from a pool of fifteen players and asks a general trivia question. If the answer if correct, the player moves to the next round. If not, the player goes home. The other remaining player hopefuls who ere not picke still have the chance to be picked on the following episodes on the week.

Second Round (Pick a Word): The players stand up on a platform. Edu picks the first amount (1,000, 3,000, and 5,000) and a word from the board and a question will be asked. The player who answered correctly chooses the next question’s amount and category (word). For every correct answer, the amount will be added to the player’s pot money and the player’s platform will rise. Consequently, for every wrong answer, the amount will be deducted from the player’s pot money and the player’s platform will go down. This round is played for eight minutes. After eight minutes, the two players (for the pilot episode, three) with the highest scores will move on to the next round. Also, the player who got five consecutive correct answers will receive an additional 50 000 pesos.

Third Round (Take a Pic): Same rules as above except that the three players will choose amounts from 5,000, 7,000, and 10,000. And also, pictures are used to determine the category of question to be asked. The player with the highest score after 5 minutes will move on to the jackpot round.

Jackpot Round: The player is presented with nine words/categories which where the questions will be based. In order to win the jackpot prize of 1,000,000 pesos, the player needs to answer all the seven questions correctly (pass is not allowed) for 60 seconds. If the player did not succeed to win the jackpot, the player can choose a letter from G, A, M, E, K, N, and B (just like on the previous version of PGKNB) where he can win a bonus prize.

Generally, I can’t connect the rising or falling of the platform with the game’s format. The horn (sound) really annoys me. But the new dance, named ‘Papa-yoh’, is cute. πŸ˜€ And seven questions for one minute? I think it’s too hard. But I love ABS-CBN Engineering (if that’s the right authority) πŸ˜€ for such innovative platforms. Haha, the other network can’t do that (joke). I am still bitter with the new theme, it sounded like a novelty song.

  1. :)) you’re quite the nitpicker, aren’t you. πŸ™‚ can’t say i’m as excited as you are. “papa-yoh”, good grief. what will they think of next? XP

  2. i like correcting other people’s work in my head, but i’ve grown averse to actually editing their work without their express permission. i usually wind up changing the tone of the work, and that’s not what i want to do… you should learn good grammar on your own; i’m only a guide. πŸ˜€

seriousness aside, if you want i *can* correct your work, only if you want to. i’ll have a lot of free time on my hands once java boot camp’s over πŸ˜€ hehehehe.

And for Kris, may Wheel of Fortune pa naman sya πŸ˜€ Pero una ko syang nagustuhan sa PGKNB

  6. Hello!

I have yet to watch the new format so wala muna akong comment kung alin ang mas okay. Pero hands down, isa pa rin siya sa mga favorite kong game shows of all time (kasama na ang Deal or no Deal, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune US Editions, at The Weakest Link with Edu :p).

Pero there’s no harm in wishing ‘di ba? Baka magbago uli ang isip nila…. XD
